Following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force F-7BGI training aircraft onto the rooftop of Milestone School and College’s canteen in Uttara’s Diabari area, authorities have announced that the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families as soon as identification is confirmed. A statement released by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing on Monday (July 21) confirmed that the process of returning the bodies will be expedited for those whose identities can be immediately established.

For victims whose bodies are not instantly recognizable due to the extent of burn injuries or other factors, DNA tests will be conducted to ensure accurate identification before the remains are respectfully returned to their families. The government has assured the public that every effort will be made to carry out this process with dignity, urgency, and compassion.

The fatal incident occurred just after 1:06 PM when the F-7BGI fighter jet, part of a routine training operation by the Bangladesh Air Force, crashed minutes after takeoff. The aircraft fell directly onto the school canteen’s rooftop while students and staff were present in the building, causing widespread casualties. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the timing and nature of the accident, stating that an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the malfunction or failure that led to the crash.

Emergency response teams, including fire service units, military personnel, police, and volunteers, arrived at the scene promptly and began rescue operations. Despite their swift actions, at least 19 people were confirmed dead, and over 150 injured, many of them children. Several of the injured are in critical condition and are being treated at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, CMH, Kurmitola General Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and other nearby facilities.

As the nation reels from the shock of this unprecedented tragedy, officials are urging for cooperation and patience during the identification and handover process. Authorities have also requested families of missing persons to remain in touch with relevant medical and administrative units and to assist in the DNA identification process if needed.

This heartbreaking event has triggered widespread mourning and has raised critical concerns regarding airspace safety over populated and educational zones.
