The session of the 13th National Parliament will resume today at 11 AM. Earlier, after the beginning of the new parliament last Thursday and the President’s address, Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed adjourned the sitting until Sunday. According to sources at the Parliament Secretariat, today’s agenda includes a question-and-answer session, attention notices on matters of urgent public importance, and discussions on the motion of thanks regarding the President’s speech. During the question session, ministers will respond to queries related to several ministries and divisions, including the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Science and Technology, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasa Education Division, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Ministry of Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. In the first meeting of the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee, it was decided that the first session of the 13th Parliament will continue until April 30. Except for government holidays, the parliament will sit every day at 3 PM. The meeting of the advisory committee was held on Saturday in the cabinet room of the parliament building under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, where the schedule and activities of the session were discussed in detail. The committee also decided to allocate a total of 50 hours for discussions on the President’s speech, where members of parliament from the treasury bench as well as opposition parties will take part. According to parliamentary sources, a total of 468 questions have been submitted for the session, including eight questions addressed to the Prime Minister and 460 to other ministers. In addition, 27 notices under Rule 71 to draw attention to matters of public importance and 97 notices under Rule 131 for resolutions have been received, which may be placed in the session in phases. As this will be the first full working day since the commencement of the new parliament, the sitting is considered significant. Discussions on forming parliamentary standing committees, introducing new legislation, and debating key national policy issues are expected to receive priority during the session.
