The first session of the 13th National Parliament is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Ahead of it, the BNP parliamentary party will hold a meeting today at 11:30 AM to finalize nominations for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions.
Party sources say experienced and widely accepted political figures will be prioritized for the Speaker role, especially those who have served multiple terms as Members of Parliament.
Names being discussed for the Speaker position include Dr. Moin Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, and Zainul Abdin Farroque. Senior Supreme Court lawyer Zainul Abedin is also being considered.
Meanwhile, the government has proposed that the Deputy Speaker position be given to the opposition party, in line with the July National Charter. However, the opposition Jamaat-e-Islami has not yet proposed any candidate.
