Two houses in Raujhan, Chattogram, were allegedly set on fire after locking the doors from outside. Residents escaped by cutting through tin and bamboo fences, local sources said.
The incident occurred around 3:45 AM on Monday in Ward 5 of West Sultanpur, Raujhan Municipality. The burned houses belong to the Hindu community, with a total of seven rooms destroyed. The owners are Sukh Shil (a Dubai-based expatriate) and Anil Shil (a daily laborer).
Mithun Shil, son of Anil Shil, told reporters that the fire destroyed his passport, furniture, cash of 80–90 thousand BDT, and other valuable belongings. “Both doors were locked from outside. We had to cut the tin and bamboo fences to escape,” he said.
Raujhan Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) S.M. Rahatul Islam and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Angching Marma inspected the site and assured the affected families of assistance. The local administration provided 25 kg of rice, 5,000 BDT in cash, and blankets to the victims.
Raujhan police officer-in-charge Sazedul Islam said, “We arrived at the scene around 4 AM. We are trying to identify the culprits.”
Earlier last week, similar arson attacks were reported in other areas of Raujhan, with cases filed against unknown individuals.
