Twelve army officers have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with two separate cases of crimes against humanity. They were brought before the tribunal on Sunday morning.

In one case involving allegations of enforced disappearances at the Taskforce for Interrogation Cell (TFI Cell) during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, the tribunal is scheduled to pass an order today on whether formal charges will be framed.

There are a total of 17 accused in this case. Among them, 10 army officers are currently under arrest. They are Brigadier General Md Jahangir Alam, Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, Md Kamrul Hasan, Md Mahbub Alam and KM Azad; Colonel Abdullah Al Momen and Anwar Latif Khan (on pre-retirement leave); and Lieutenant Colonels Md Mashiur Rahman, Saiful Islam Suman and Md Sarwar Bin Kashem. All of them were produced before the tribunal today.

Seven accused in the case, including deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former Prime Minister’s adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, remain absconding.

Separately, in another case related to crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising in the Rampura and Banasree areas of the capital, former Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Redowanul Islam and Major Md Rafat-bin-Alam were also produced before the tribunal today.

The remaining two accused in this case—former police Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Rashedul Islam and former Officer-in-Charge Md Mashiur Rahman—are still at large.
