Guard brake wagon derails near Uthli station; authorities halt all rail operations pending rescue efforts

Train communication between Khulna and the rest of Bangladesh has been suspended following the derailment of a freight train in the Uthli area of Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga district. The incident occurred on Friday, July 4, at approximately 5:30 PM in front of Uthli Secondary School.

According to information gathered at the scene, the freight train had departed from Mongla and was en route to Sirajganj Bazar. As it entered Uthli station and crossed the loop line to switch onto the main line, one of the guard brake wagons derailed. The rear section of the wagon came off the track, with four wheels slipping out of alignment during the maneuver.

Following the derailment, the derailed guard brake wagon was detached from the train. The remaining wagons continued their journey, departing towards Darshana Halt Station at around 5:45 PM.

Uthli Station Master Mintu Kumar Roy confirmed the incident and stated that higher railway authorities had been informed. He added that recovery efforts would commence as per their instructions. In the meantime, all train operations on the route between Khulna and other parts of the country have been suspended.

The derailment has caused significant disruption to rail connectivity in the region, affecting both passenger and freight services. Railway officials are currently assessing the damage and preparing for the removal and repair work necessary to resume normal operations.
