The government has declared three days of state mourning following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The mourning will be observed from Wednesday to Friday (December 31, January 1, and January 2). In addition, a nationwide public holiday has been announced for Wednesday.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast, and all government and private institutions will observe mourning during this period.

Passed Away Early Morning

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00 am on Tuesday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. The news of her death was officially confirmed later in the morning.

Family Present at Final Moments

Her eldest son and Acting Chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, was present beside her at the time of her passing. Other family members, close relatives, senior party leaders, and the medical board were also present at the hospital.

Long-Term Health Complications

She had been suffering from multiple chronic illnesses, including liver cirrhosis, diabetes, and arthritis, along with complications involving her kidneys, lungs, heart, and vision.

Nationwide Mourning

Her death has cast a deep shadow of grief across the nation, with political leaders and organizations expressing profound condolences.
