Ahead of the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called upon citizens to exercise their voting rights freely, fearlessly, and in a festive spirit. In a nationally televised address, he emphasized that the future of the country now rests in the hands of its people, and responsible use of that power can open the door to a new Bangladesh.

He described voting not as a mere formality, but as the strongest instrument of nation-building. Urging citizens to come to polling centers in groups and with their families, he said that a single vote does more than elect a government—it determines the direction of a nation.

Referring to election day as the “birthday of a new Bangladesh,” the Chief Adviser expressed hope that a peaceful and participatory election would turn the day into a historic milestone. He encouraged people to transform the electoral process into a true celebration of democracy.

Special emphasis was placed on young voters. Dr. Yunus noted that the current generation of youth grew up during a long period when voting rights existed in name but not in practice. Although ballots were present, genuine participation was absent. He said the cost of this prolonged deprivation was paid daily by the nation.

Addressing young citizens directly, he called this election their first authentic political expression. According to him, the dreams, talent, and energy of young people form the foundation of the future Bangladesh, and this vote allows them to finally make their voices heard.

Women voters were also given particular recognition. Dr. Yunus highlighted the role of women from the Liberation War to every major democratic movement in the country. He praised their leadership in the July mass uprising and acknowledged their vital contribution to the economy, foreign currency earnings, microfinance, cottage industries, and entrepreneurship.

He stated that while women have struggled equally at home and in public life to sustain families and society, they were long denied meaningful participation in state decision-making. This election, he said, marks a new beginning for women and an opportunity for equal civic engagement.

The Chief Adviser urged all voters to leave fear behind and step forward with courage. He described the vote as a response to years of suppression and democratic stagnation, asserting that it would demonstrate that the voices of the people—especially youth, women, and grassroots citizens—can no longer be silenced.

Concluding his address, Dr. Yunus offered prayers for the nation and expressed hope that collective participation would lead to a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic Bangladesh built on the will of its people.
