BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his mother while extending heartfelt gratitude to the people of the country. In an emotional message shared on social media, he said the overwhelming love and support from the nation prevented him from feeling alone during this painful time.
He stated that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been laid to rest beside her husband, martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Describing the loss as beyond words, he noted that the respect and presence of millions helped ease the weight of grief.
Tarique Rahman said the massive turnout and collective tribute reminded him that Begum Khaleda Zia was not only a mother to her family, but also a guardian figure for the nation.
He also acknowledged the presence and condolences of international representatives, diplomats, and well-wishers from South Asia and beyond, expressing sincere appreciation for their solidarity.
Recalling other departed members of his family, he said the outpouring of love made him feel that, beyond personal loss, the entire nation had embraced him as family.
Concluding his message, Tarique Rahman reflected on Begum Khaleda Zia’s lifelong dedication to public service and pledged to carry forward her legacy with commitment and responsibility. He prayed for eternal peace for her soul.
