Tasnim Jara has announced that she will contest the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election as an independent candidate, stepping away from the National Citizen Party (NCP). She will run from the Dhaka-9 constituency.
In a statement posted on her verified social media account on Saturday evening, she said she would not contest the election under the banner of any political party or alliance. She has also submitted her resignation to the party leadership.
Earlier, NCP had nominated her as its candidate for Dhaka-9, which includes Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda areas. However, internal disagreements emerged within the party following reports of a possible electoral understanding with Jamaat-e-Islami.
Explaining her decision, Tasnim Jara said her original aspiration was to serve the people through parliament as part of a political party platform. Given the current circumstances, she decided not to contest as a party or alliance candidate. She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting a new political culture despite the challenges.
She noted that, as an independent candidate, she must collect the legally required number of voter signatures from the Dhaka-9 constituency and appealed to local residents for support in this process.
Regarding campaign funds previously raised, she stated that anyone seeking a refund would be able to reclaim their contributions through a transparent process.
A medical doctor by profession, Tasnim Jara gained prominence through public health awareness initiatives and later became involved in reform-oriented politics.
