Dhaka – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmad has indicated that the return of party senior leader Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh will mark a major turning point in the party’s electoral campaign, stating that half of the campaigning work will effectively be completed upon his arrival.
Speaking on Sunday at a discussion organized by the Nationalist Tax Lawyers Forum at the Diploma Engineering Institute in the capital, Salahuddin emphasized the pivotal role of Tarique Rahman in galvanizing the party’s nationwide political efforts ahead of upcoming elections.
“The country is currently in an electoral atmosphere,” he said, highlighting that the political environment across Bangladesh has already started reflecting an election-ready scenario. “The mood is ripe, and people are anticipating a change that aligns with their hopes and expectations,” he added.
Salahuddin Ahmad stressed the importance of establishing a political government through the elections. “It is imperative that a parliamentary government is formed, one that fulfills the aspirations of the nation,” he said. He further cautioned those attempting to create obstacles or disseminate confusing statements to derail the process, asserting that such efforts will not be successful.
Discussing the timeline, he mentioned that the elections could take place before the first week of Ramadan in February 2026 or slightly earlier. “Preparations are underway, and the country is already gearing up for the electoral process,” he noted.
According to Salahuddin, Tarique Rahman’s return will significantly energize BNP’s campaign machinery across the country. “I am not saying the election will take place immediately upon his return. What I am saying is that once he arrives, half of BNP’s electoral work, particularly the campaigning, will be effectively completed nationwide,” he clarified. He emphasized that election campaigning constitutes the core of any electoral strategy, and Tarique Rahman’s presence would accelerate the process dramatically.
Salahuddin also referred to the historic significance of Tarique Rahman’s return, suggesting that it will mark an unforgettable moment in the party’s political history. He projected that the event will not only consolidate BNP supporters but also draw nationwide attention to the party’s activities and objectives.
The BNP leader’s remarks come amid growing speculation and anticipation about Tarique Rahman’s return to Bangladesh after years of political exile. Party insiders have suggested that his re-entry is expected to boost morale and enhance organizational coordination, enabling BNP to mobilize its supporters more efficiently across all constituencies.
Observers note that Tarique Rahman has long been considered a central figure in BNP’s strategy, and his involvement is seen as vital for the party’s outreach and public engagement efforts. Salahuddin Ahmad reinforced this view, asserting that the return of senior leadership is crucial to strengthening the party’s national presence and ensuring effective communication with the electorate.
The discussion also touched upon the broader political climate in Bangladesh. Salahuddin highlighted that the public is increasingly seeking a government that represents the people’s aspirations and that the elections must facilitate a democratic process reflective of the nation’s mandate. He called on all political actors to respect the electoral framework and refrain from actions that might obstruct a fair and transparent process.
Salahuddin’s statements underline BNP’s focus on strategic preparation ahead of the next general election, indicating that the party is closely monitoring developments and is intent on consolidating its campaign machinery. By emphasizing Tarique Rahman’s symbolic and operational role, he sought to convey the party’s confidence in its electoral prospects and readiness to engage with voters nationwide.
In conclusion, Salahuddin Ahmad asserted that Tarique Rahman’s homecoming will be a defining moment for BNP, asserting that it will energize the party’s supporters and significantly advance its preparations for the upcoming elections. “His return will be an unforgettable historical event and a turning point for BNP’s nationwide campaign,” he said, reiterating the importance of leadership in mobilizing political support and reinforcing organizational efforts across Bangladesh.
