BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has decided to contest the upcoming national parliamentary election from the Dhaka-17 constituency. His nomination form has already been collected as part of the process.
On Sunday morning, A B M Abdus Sattar, personal secretary to the BNP Chairperson, visited the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Segunbagicha to collect the nomination form on Rahman’s behalf.
Dhaka-17, comprising elite areas such as Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara, is considered a politically significant constituency. Previously, a senior leader from an allied party was expected to contest from this seat. However, following Rahman’s decision, that leader announced his withdrawal in respect of Rahman’s candidacy.
Party sources said Tarique Rahman applied for voter registration in Dhaka-17 on Saturday. Subsequently, senior party leaders requested him to contest from the constituency, to which he agreed.
In addition, Tarique Rahman is also preparing to contest the election from the Bogura-6 constituency.
