Commerce, Industries, and Textiles & Jute Minister Khandker Abdul Muktadir has assured that the government possesses adequate food stocks to maintain price stability in the market during Ramadan. He acknowledged that when the current administration assumed responsibility, there was limited time to undertake special preparations ahead of the holy month. However, he emphasized that the existing reserves are sufficient to prevent unusual price hikes and ensure a stable supply of essential commodities.
The minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists after exchanging greetings with officials and party leaders at Osmani International Airport. He reiterated that one of the Commerce Ministry’s core responsibilities is to keep prices of daily essentials within an affordable range, particularly during Ramadan when consumer demand rises significantly.
He stated that the government has intensified market monitoring and is coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure smooth supply chains. Administrative vigilance will continue to prevent artificial shortages or unjustified price increases. The minister also warned against profiteering, stressing that strict action would be taken if traders attempt to exploit the seasonal surge in demand.
Addressing broader development plans, he referred to commitments outlined during the election campaign and pledged their gradual implementation. Key priorities include employment generation, expansion of the information technology sector, and the establishment of a modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) center. According to him, enhancing technological capacity is essential for Bangladesh to remain competitive in the evolving global landscape.
The minister observed that neighboring countries are adopting large-scale digital initiatives and providing AI training to government officials. If Bangladesh fails to keep pace with such advancements, it risks lagging behind in global competitiveness. Therefore, he expressed determination to utilize each day of the next five years to strengthen the country’s global standing through technology-driven growth.
Regarding employment opportunities at Sylhet’s IT park, he emphasized that investment is the cornerstone of job creation. To attract investors, the government must improve infrastructure, modernize communication systems, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and ensure political stability. He added that both expatriate and domestic investors require supportive policies to build confidence and encourage greater participation in economic activities.
He expressed optimism that these initiatives would generate new employment opportunities in Sylhet and bolster the regional economy. The government’s objective, he noted, extends beyond short-term market stabilization; it aims to build long-term economic resilience and sustainable growth.
In conclusion, the minister underscored that despite limited resources and high public expectations, the government remains committed to structured and strategic development. Ensuring price stability during Ramadan while simultaneously fostering technology-based employment and investment is central to its economic agenda.
