Fresh political tension has emerged following recent remarks by State Minister for Education ববি হাজ্জাজ regarding legal action against মাওলানা মামুনুল হক. In response, বাংলাদেশ খেলাফত মজলিস has strongly criticized the minister’s statement, alleging electoral manipulation in the Dhaka-13 constituency.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Secretary General claimed that their candidate, Mamunul Haque, who contested with the rickshaw symbol, had visible public support. However, they alleged that irregularities occurred during the vote counting and result declaration process. The statement accused authorities of declaring valid votes invalid, tampering with result sheets, and altering final outcomes. It was also mentioned that several television channels reportedly announced Mamunul Haque as the winner for about 20 minutes before suddenly broadcasting revised results, raising public suspicion.
The party further claimed that despite submitting written complaints to the Election Commission and requesting suspension of the results, the official gazette was published swiftly. According to the statement, this reflects an attempt to override the people’s mandate. They also argued that past efforts to file cases and harass Mamunul Haque for political reasons appear to be repeating in the current context.
Earlier, Bobby Hajjaj made his comments while visiting injured political activists who were reportedly attacked during election-day violence. He indicated that legal action could be taken against Mamunul Haque over allegations of polling center capture and attacks on opposition activists. Khilafat Majlis rejected these remarks as false, fabricated, and politically motivated.
Political observers believe that the controversy surrounding the Dhaka-13 result may intensify tensions between rival political camps. The dispute over vote counting, result management, and potential legal proceedings could significantly influence the broader political landscape.
In conclusion, Khilafat Majlis warned that continued distortion of electoral outcomes and what they describe as misinformation could lead to a larger political crisis. The issue, therefore, extends beyond a single constituency and touches upon public confidence in the electoral process itself.
