A deadly road crash on the Haluaghat-Mymensingh highway sparks public outrage after a speeding bus collides with a Mahindra, killing six and injuring several others.

A devastating road accident in Mymensingh's Phulpur upazila claimed the lives of six Mahindra passengers on Friday night, triggering public fury and chaos in the aftermath. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM near the Kaziyakanda Indirarpar area along the Haluaghat-Mymensingh highway, when a passenger bus collided head-on with a Mahindra vehicle, instantly killing six people, including a woman, and leaving several others injured.

The victims, whose identities remain unknown at the time of reporting, were traveling in a Mahindra coming from the opposite direction when it was struck by a speeding bus belonging to the Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan fleet. The bus had reportedly departed from Mymensingh and was en route to Haluaghat when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses and local residents described the scene as horrific, with the Mahindra vehicle mangled and victims' bodies lying scattered on the road. Upon hearing of the incident, local villagers rushed to the site to help rescue the injured. As the news of the casualties spread, emotions ran high, and within moments, an angry crowd set the involved bus on fire.

Fire service units from the Phulpur Fire Station, along with local volunteers, arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze and recover the bodies. Traffic along the busy Haluaghat-Mymensingh route came to a standstill as authorities struggled to regain control of the situation and clear the wreckage.

Lutfur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of the Phulpur Fire Service Station, confirmed that six bodies were recovered from the scene and handed over to the police. Several injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment, some reported to be in critical condition.

The police, along with fire personnel, worked to restore order and secure the area, while efforts were made to identify the victims and notify their families. Officer-in-charge of Phulpur Police Station, Md. Abdul Hadi, stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision and whether reckless driving or mechanical failure played a role.

The incident has reignited concerns over road safety across Bangladesh, particularly involving local three-wheelers and inter-district buses on poorly regulated highways. The Haluaghat-Mymensingh road, like many others across the country, remains a hotspot for fatal accidents due to overspeeding, driver fatigue, and lack of traffic monitoring.

As night fell over Phulpur, the aftermath of the tragedy continued to weigh heavily on the local community, with relatives of the missing feared among the dead. The charred remains of the bus stood as a grim reminder of a moment that turned a quiet highway into a scene of loss and outrage.

Authorities are expected to release an official statement upon confirming the identities of the deceased. In the meantime, law enforcement has tightened security in the surrounding areas to prevent further unrest and has assured a thorough investigation into the incident.
