During an inspection of terminals and the river port in Narayanganj on Saturday, Road Transport, Bridges, Railways, and Maritime Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam stated that any attempt to increase transport fares during Eid would be met with strict action. He emphasized that the transport sector has already been instructed not to raise fares, and legal measures will be taken against violators. The minister expressed hope that Eid travel will be smooth, comfortable, and safe. He added that any disruption causing traffic congestion or disorder on the roads will be promptly addressed. All relevant authorities, including traffic police, river police, and the coast guard, will actively ensure hassle-free Eid travel. On environmental concerns, he mentioned coordinating with the Ministry of Environment to tackle pollution in the Shitalakkhya River and implementing necessary measures. He also directed legal action against keeping essential goods on lighter vessels to create artificial shortages in the market. State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, Deputy Director of BIWTA Narayanganj Mustafizur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Alamgir Hossain, and Additional Superintendent of Police Hasinuzzaman, among other officials, were present. Commuters welcomed the minister’s initiatives, expressing hope that these steps will effectively prevent fare hikes during Eid.
