Local business owners and residents staged a protest by surrounding Adabor Police Station in the Mohammadpur area of the capital, demanding an end to extortion and robbery incidents. The demonstration began around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday night. Additional police forces were deployed to the scene to maintain order.

According to local sources, an armed attack took place at an embroidery factory in Adabor on Saturday evening. Allegedly, a group of 10 to 12 individuals entered the factory wielding machetes and assaulted the owner and workers. The attackers reportedly aimed to extort money and seize cash and mobile phones. Several workers were injured in the incident and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

In protest against the attack and the rising incidents of extortion and robbery, agitated workers and local traders gathered at the police station late at night. They also blocked nearby roads and chanted slogans. Protesters claimed that criminal activities had been ongoing in the area for a long time without effective action from authorities. They demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and stronger security measures to ensure safety.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Mohammadpur Zone, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, stated that the attack occurred while wages were being distributed at the embroidery factory. As news of the incident spread, workers from nearby factories joined the protest in anger. The crowd reportedly identified a man named Russell as a suspect and surrounded his house. When they failed to find him, they detained his father instead.

Russell’s father later informed the police, who brought him to the station for his safety. Meanwhile, protesters gathered outside the police station and continued their demonstration. Police officials engaged in discussions with the crowd and assured them that legal steps would be taken.

The factory owner has filed a case regarding the attack, and an investigation is currently underway. Police officials have pledged to identify and arrest those involved and bring them under the law.

Local residents have alleged that incidents of extortion and robbery have recently increased in Adabor and surrounding areas. Business owners claim they are often threatened with violence and vandalism if they fail to pay regular extortion demands, making it increasingly difficult to operate their businesses. They have called for permanent security arrangements and intensified police patrols.

Although tensions persisted throughout the night, the situation was eventually brought under control. Police authorities stated that additional surveillance has been implemented in the area and that operations to apprehend the perpetrators will continue.
