Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid solemn tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War on Wednesday morning by placing wreaths at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.

Following the tribute, the Prime Minister signed the visitors’ book and observed a moment of silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. Members of the cabinet and senior government officials accompanied him during the visit.

This marked the Prime Minister’s first official state programme after assuming office. Observers believe beginning his tenure with a tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial underscores the new government’s commitment to the ideals of the Liberation War, national sovereignty, and democratic values.

Later in the day, on his first working day in office, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the Secretariat. In the afternoon, he will chair the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed government. The meeting is expected to focus on immediate priorities, administrative direction, and key policy considerations for the coming days.

On the same day, the Prime Minister is also set to hold meetings with top civil servants, including secretaries to the government. These discussions are expected to outline the government’s goals, strategic plans, and measures to enhance administrative efficiency.

Political analysts view the packed schedule on the very first day as a signal of an active and decisive start by the new administration. The combination of paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs, engaging with senior officials, and convening the first cabinet meeting reflects the government’s intent to move swiftly from symbolism to governance.
