Prime Minister Tareq Rahman on Wednesday instructed the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) to remain at the highest level of operational readiness in order to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, maintain peace, and ensure internal stability. The directive was given during a courtesy meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital, where the Director General of the force, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, met the Prime Minister and briefed him on the current activities, modernization initiatives, and future plans of the organization. During the meeting, both sides exchanged greetings and discussed the prevailing security situation, the responsibilities of the force in maintaining law and order, and its contribution to public safety at the grassroots level. The Prime Minister emphasized that in an evolving security environment, it is essential for all auxiliary and security forces to remain vigilant, disciplined, and professionally prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any emerging threat. He noted that the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party has consistently played an important role in supporting law enforcement agencies, ensuring security during national events and elections, assisting in disaster management operations, and contributing to the protection of communities, particularly in rural areas. Praising the dedication, professionalism, and patriotism of the force’s members, the Prime Minister said their commitment has significantly strengthened public confidence and national stability. He stressed the need for further modernization, including advanced training, improved logistical support, greater use of technology, and enhanced coordination with other security agencies to address both conventional and non-traditional security challenges. The Prime Minister also stated that protecting national sovereignty and upholding the Constitution are shared responsibilities that require coordinated efforts among all forces. He called for continued focus on improving operational efficiency and member welfare to ensure sustained morale and effectiveness. In response, the Director General informed the Prime Minister about various ongoing development projects, training programs, infrastructure improvements, and initiatives aimed at enhancing operational capability and member welfare. He mentioned that strategic reforms are being implemented to make the force more responsive and capable in dealing with modern security demands. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with these efforts and assured continued government support to strengthen the institutional capacity of the force. Concluding the meeting, he reiterated the importance of maintaining maximum vigilance and preparedness at all times, directing the leadership to ensure that every member remains ready to respond promptly to any situation in order to protect the nation’s sovereignty, constitutional order, and overall security.
