President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the army officers who were martyred in the tragic killings at the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana. On Wednesday (February 25) at 10:00 am, they laid wreaths at the graves of the fallen officers at the Military Graveyard in Banani, Dhaka, and offered prayers for the eternal peace of their souls. Senior military and civil officials were also present during the ceremony. In a message issued earlier, the Prime Minister described the Pilkhana massacre as a painful chapter in the nation’s history and emphasized that it is essential for citizens to understand the true background of the ঘটনা. He stated that in a fascism-free Bangladesh, the underlying causes of the killings have now become clearer and more comprehensible to the জনগণ. He also remarked that after the হত্যাকাণ্ড, attempts were made to mislead people by spreading misinformation and propaganda. The Prime Minister noted that the armed forces symbolize the dignity, valor, and pride of an independent nation, and any conspiracy against them poses a threat to the country and its জনগণ. He urged everyone to remain vigilant so that no such conspiracy can take place in the future. Reaffirming national unity, he declared that the country must stand united against any plot that goes against the interests of the nation and its people. He said the observance of Martyred Army Day is not only a day of mourning but also a day to renew the pledge to safeguard national sovereignty, unity, and institutional integrity. Family members of the slain officers were present at the ceremony, and the President and Prime Minister exchanged greetings with them. Various prayer gatherings and remembrance events were also held across the country, highlighting the sacrifices of the martyrs and calling for patriotism and national solidarity.
