The formation of a new cabinet has begun immediately after the oath-taking of Members of Parliament. According to available information, a 50-member cabinet is being formed, comprising 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers. The government will be led by Tarique Rahman, who is set to take oath as Prime Minister. The oath ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 pm today at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The new cabinet includes a mix of senior political leaders and technocrats at both ministerial levels. However, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party will not participate in the oath ceremony.

Key portfolios have been assigned to experienced figures. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been given the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will oversee the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning. Salahuddin Ahmed has been appointed Minister for Home Affairs, while Iqbal Hasan Mahmud takes charge of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be led by technocrat Dr Khalilur Rahman. Technocrat Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid will manage three crucial sectors—Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Food. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been assigned to Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, while education-related ministries will be overseen by A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon.

In the infrastructure sector, Sheikh Rabiul Alam has been entrusted with three major ministries—Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping. Md Asaduzzaman will serve as Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Abdul Awal Mintoo will lead the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

At the state minister level, important responsibilities have also been distributed. Shama Obaed Islam will serve as State Minister for Foreign Affairs, while technocrat Md Aminul Haque takes charge of Youth and Sports. Nurul Haque Nur has been appointed to Labour and Employment as well as Expatriates’ Welfare, and Md Abdul Bari will oversee the Ministry of Public Administration.

Political observers believe the composition of the new cabinet signals a focus on economic recovery, administrative reform, energy sector stability, and improved social services. The inclusion of technocrats in several key ministries is expected to strengthen policy formulation and implementation through professional expertise, reflecting the government’s intention to address complex national challenges with a blend of political leadership and technical competence.
