BNP Standing Committee member and former state minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that a neutral, free, and fair election is the true aspiration of the people, stressing that a level playing field must be ensured for all candidates in the electoral process. Speaking on Friday afternoon after the nomination scrutiny for the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency at the district administration office, he said the public is eager to exercise their voting rights after a long period and maintaining this environment is a collective responsibility of the Election Commission, the government, political parties, and the people themselves. He added that to ensure a free and independent voting atmosphere, law enforcement agencies must play a supportive role, while the people must take the central role in the electoral process. Earlier, following the scrutiny, Salahuddin Ahmed’s nomination as the BNP candidate for Cox’s Bazar-1 was declared valid, while several nominations were reviewed among five candidates, resulting in the validation of some and the cancellation of others, leaving multiple political parties in the race.
