The National Moon Sighting Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday at 6:00 pm to determine the sighting of the crescent moon for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri.
The meeting will take place after Maghrib prayers at the Islamic Foundation conference room of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka, according to a statement from the Islamic Foundation.
The Religious Affairs Minister will chair the meeting. The foundation has requested that if the Ramadan moon is sighted anywhere in the country, the information should be promptly reported to the respective Deputy Commissioner (DC) or Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). Designated telephone numbers have also been provided for direct communication with the committee.
If the crescent moon is sighted on Wednesday evening, fasting will begin on Thursday. Otherwise, Ramadan will commence on Friday. Muslims observe the holy month through fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection, seeking self-discipline and spiritual growth.
