Jessore has recorded the lowest temperature in the country for the second consecutive day. On Saturday morning at around 6:45 a.m., the temperature dropped to 8.8 degrees Celsius. Continuous cold winds and a mild cold wave have severely affected daily life in the district and surrounding areas.
Although the sun appears briefly during the middle of the day, dense fog and biting cold continue to cause hardship. Agricultural activities have been significantly affected, as farmers are unable to start work early in the morning. With potato cultivation and Boro rice transplantation currently underway, the cold weather has added to farmers’ concerns.
Hardship for Day Laborers
The cold has also taken a toll on day laborers. In areas where hundreds usually gather daily in search of work, the number has dropped sharply due to the harsh weather. Many laborers are returning home without finding any work, while others wait for hours in vain. According to workers, irregular employment during winter makes it difficult to manage daily expenses.
Rise in Cold-Related Illnesses
As temperatures fall, cold-related illnesses are on the rise. Many people are suffering from fever, cough, cold, and diarrhea. Doctors are advising people to wear warm clothing, drink warm water, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during early mornings to stay healthy.

According to the weather forecast, a mild cold wave is currently sweeping over several districts, including Jessore, and may continue in some areas. While day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country, foggy conditions are expected to keep the cold sensation persistent in many regions.
