Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury has been appointed as the 26th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. The appointment was made through an official notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and will take effect from the date of his oath-taking.
The appointment has been made under Article 95(1) of the Constitution, exercising the authority of the President. He will succeed the incumbent Chief Justice, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, who is set to retire upon reaching the constitutional retirement age.
Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury was born on 18 May 1961 and will reach the retirement age of 67 on 17 May 2028.
He obtained his LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka and later completed an LLM in International Law from the United Kingdom.

Justice Chowdhury is the son of late Justice A.F.M. Abdur Rahman Chowdhury and late Begum Sitara Chowdhury.
