Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mohammad Nahid Islam announced that a new department, the 'July Uprising Department,' will be established next month. This department will operate under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
In a press conference held on Monday at the Rail Bhaban in Dhaka, Nahid Islam shared details about the department's upcoming initiatives.
He explained that the department's main responsibilities will include providing assistance to the families of martyrs from the July Uprising, helping rehabilitate the injured, and addressing all aspects related to the historical uprising.
Regarding the financial assistance for the families of martyrs and those injured during the uprising, Nahid Islam mentioned that the government has allocated a total of 637.8 crore BDT through the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. This amount will be distributed in phases.
Starting next week, the distribution process will begin, with 232.6 crore BDT being allocated to the martyrs’ families and the injured. Each martyr's family will receive a savings bond worth 10 lakh BDT.
He also stated that the remaining 405.2 crore BDT will be provided in July 2025 under the 2025-2026 fiscal year. In this second phase, each martyr’s family will receive 20 lakh BDT. Additionally, the injured will receive financial assistance according to the severity of their injuries, with different categories of compensation being planned.
Furthermore, from July onwards, a monthly allowance will be given to those who sustained severe injuries during the uprising.
The press conference was attended by Railway Ministry Advisor Mohammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Liberation War Affairs Ministry Advisor Faruk I Azam Bir Pratik, CEO of the July Martyrs' Memorial Foundation Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdh, Dr. Tasnim Jara, and others.
