Muhammad Shahjahan criticizes current food scarcity and urges government to declare Muradpur area a martyr’s ground

Muhammad Shahjahan, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, expressed deep concern over the current food scarcity affecting the nation. Speaking at a food distribution event organized by the Jamaat’s Chattogram Metropolitan unit on Wednesday, Shahjahan lamented seeing people standing in long lines just to get food. He emphasized that Jamaat envisions a Bangladesh where every household has access to sufficient food.

“Seeing people lined up for food today is truly shameful. Jamaat-e-Islami does not want a Bangladesh like this. If Jamaat comes to power, food will be delivered to every home,” he said. The event, held in the Panchlaish police station area, was organized to honor the martyrs of the July uprising by distributing food to the poor, helpless, and orphans.

Shahjahan highlighted the significance of the July revolution, describing it as the turning point that led Bangladesh from a state of subjugation to independence.

The program was presided over by Panchlaish police station’s Jamaat Amir, Engineer Mahbubul Hasan Rumi. Muhammad Nazrul Islam, a central member of Jamaat’s Majlis-e-Shura and acting Amir of the Chattogram metropolitan area, was present as the chief speaker.

During the event, Muhammad Nazrul Islam accused ruling party affiliates, including Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League, of killing Faisal Ahmed Shanto, Wasim Akram, and Faruk Ahmed at Muradpur intersection last July. He urged the government to officially declare the Muradpur intersection as a martyr’s ground by publishing a gazette notification immediately.

“We strongly demand the government recognize the sacrifices by declaring Muradpur a martyr’s ground without delay,” he added.

The Jamaat leaders’ statements underline their continued focus on social welfare issues and call for justice and recognition for those killed during past political unrest.
