Inqilab Mancha has announced a complete blockade across all divisional cities of the country starting from 2:00 PM today, demanding the arrest and trial of those responsible for the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The announcement was made late Saturday night through social media. Earlier, a sit-in program had been underway at Shahbag, from where the revised schedule for the blockade was declared after reviewing the overall situation.
“No Compromise on Martyr’s Blood”
Announcing the program, Inqilab Mancha’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber stated that the blockade would continue in all eight divisions until all individuals involved in the murder are publicly identified and brought to justice. He urged citizens from all walks of life to participate in the movement.
Government Assurances Rejected
Earlier, government representatives and senior law enforcement officials visited the protest site and informed demonstrators about the progress of the investigation. They assured that a charge sheet would be submitted by January 7 and that the trial would be expedited. However, Inqilab Mancha rejected these assurances, calling them insufficient, and announced the continuation of stricter programs.
Investigation Progress Amid Protesters’ Dissatisfaction
Authorities claim that ten individuals have been arrested so far, weapons used in the killing have been recovered, and significant financial documents have been seized. Despite this, protest leaders insist that the movement will continue until the masterminds behind the crime are exposed.
Continuous Sit-in at Shahbag
Since Friday afternoon, activists have been staging a continuous sit-in at Shahbag, braving cold weather under open skies. Protest activities include slogans, poetry recitations, songs, and speeches demanding justice. Women, children, and people from various professions have joined the demonstration.
Background of the Killing
Osman Hadi was shot in the Purana Paltan area of the capital in December last year. He was later taken abroad for advanced medical treatment, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Since then, nationwide protests have been ongoing, demanding justice for his killing.
