Journalists, political leaders, and civil society members call for swift trial of the killers in a special tribunal
A human chain and protest were held in Bogura on Sunday demanding the speedy trial of the killers of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin from Gazipur. The demonstration was organized by the Bogura Union of Journalists and took place at the city’s Shatmatha intersection in the afternoon.
The program was presided over by Ganesh Das, president of the Bogura Union of Journalists, and conducted by the organization’s general secretary, S.M. Abu Sayeed. Speakers at the event included Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) executive member Mirza Selim Reza, president of the Bogura Press Club Rezaul Hasan Ranu, its general secretary Kalam Azad, central executive council member of Jamaat-e-Islami Principal Shahabuddin, senior journalist Matiul Islam Sadi, Mohsin Ali Raju, former member secretary of the Bogura Press Club Sabur Shah Lotus, BNP leader Mahbubur Rahman Harej, journalists Abul Kalam Azad, Mominur Rashid Sain, F. Shahjahan, senior vice president of the Bogura Press Club Rahat Ritu, journalists Saheduzzaman Siraj Bijoy, Abu Musa, Abdul Wadud, Abdur Rahim, and Probal Khondokar, among others.
The event was also attended by former convener of the Bogura Press Club Wasikur Rahman Bechan, journalists Saiful Islam, Shamim Ahmed, Mostofa Moghal, H. Alim, Meherul Sujon, Tofazzal Hossain, Z.A. Milon, and Golzar Hossain Mitu.
Speakers at the human chain strongly demanded that those involved in the killing of journalist Tuhin be brought to trial in a special tribunal and that the judicial process be completed in the shortest possible time. They emphasized that swift justice would not only serve the victim’s family but also send a strong message against attacks on journalists and press freedom in Bangladesh.
