The political landscape of the country has entered a new phase following the oath-taking of newly elected members of the National Parliament. In a unanimous decision during a parliamentary party meeting, BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman was elected as the leader of the parliamentary party, a move described by party leaders as historic and forward-looking.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting at the Parliament complex, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed strong optimism about the future under Tarique Rahmanâs leadership. He stated that after years marked by political repression, erosion of democratic institutions, and an ineffective parliament, the nation has finally achieved a credible election through immense public sacrifice.
According to him, securing a majority in parliament and entrusting leadership to a younger generation signals a shift toward renewal in national politics. He emphasized that Tarique Rahmanâs leadership carries the promise of steering the country toward progress and restoring democratic norms.
In its first parliamentary meeting, the party also adopted significant ethical decisions aimed at setting a new standard in politics. BNP lawmakers resolved not to accept duty-free vehicles or government-allocated plots, underscoring a commitment to transparency, accountability, and modesty in public service.
Earlier in the day, newly elected members took their oaths at the Parliament House, formally initiating parliamentary proceedings. Political analysts believe that these developmentsâboth the oath-taking and the selection of a parliamentary leaderâwill shape the formation of the new government and influence future policy directions.
As the new parliament begins its journey, it faces major challenges, including legal disputes over referendum outcomes, expectations for political reforms, economic recovery, and administrative efficiency. Public attention is now focused on how the new leadership will respond to these challenges and fulfill the aspirations of the electorate.
Overall, the election of Tarique Rahman as parliamentary leader and the policy stance announced by BNP indicate a potential new direction in the countryâs political trajectory, with hopes pinned on stability, reform, and democratic advancement.
