Meghalaya Police have stated that no arrests have been made in India in connection with the killing of Bangladeshi political activist Osman Hadi. They also claimed there is no evidence that the prime suspect, Faisal Karim, crossed the border into Indian territory.

A senior police official said that Indian authorities have not received any formal communication from Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies regarding the matter. He added that none of the individuals named in reports were found in the Garo Hills region, and no arrests have been carried out so far.

BSF Supports Meghalaya Police

India’s Border Security Force echoed the same position, stating there is no proof that any suspect entered Meghalaya through the Haluaghat border. A senior BSF official described such claims as misleading and baseless.

Contrasting Claims by Dhaka Police

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police claimed that two associates of the main suspect had been arrested in India. According to their account, the suspects traveled from Dhaka to Aminbazar, then to Manikganj and later reached the Haluaghat border area, where they allegedly crossed into India with assistance from local contacts.

Police also claimed that informal communication with Indian authorities confirmed the arrests.

Conflicting Statements Raise Questions

However, the statements from Meghalaya Police and the BSF contradict those claims. Both agencies said they remain open to cooperation but emphasized that no arrests or confirmed border crossings have been recorded. In response to the situation, border surveillance has been intensified to prevent any illegal entry.

Background of the Incident

Osman Hadi was shot in a targeted attack in Dhaka on December 12 while traveling on a public road. He was critically injured and later transferred abroad for advanced medical treatment, where he eventually died. The case was initially filed as attempted murder, but murder charges were later added following his death.
