The interim government has decided to seek assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in investigating the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. The information was disclosed on Thursday night by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam. Responding to a question about whether an international investigation would be requested, he said the government had already taken a decision to approach the UN human rights office and would formally propose its involvement in the probe when the opportunity arises. He added that the interim government is committed to ensuring a full, transparent, and credible trial in the case and is ready to provide all necessary cooperation to facilitate the investigation. According to government sources, the move aims to uncover the truth behind the incident, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice in line with legal procedures and international standards. Officials believe that the involvement of the UN human rights body will help make the investigation more impartial, credible, and acceptable both at home and abroad. The decision is also seen as a message from the government that it is determined to maintain transparency and accountability in the process, so that no doubts or controversies arise regarding the outcome. Relevant sources say that with UN assistance, it will be easier to ensure international standards in the investigation and strengthen public confidence in the process. The initiative is also being viewed as an important step to demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability before the global community. Authorities have said that all necessary documents, information, and administrative support will be provided to ensure a fair and independent investigation. Based on the findings, legal action will be taken against those found responsible. Through this approach, the government aims to guarantee a credible, impartial, and internationally accepted judicial process so that the victim’s family receives justice and public confidence in the rule of law is further reinforced.
