Bangladesh will provide assistance to expatriates whose visas are expiring due to cancelled flights amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to Expatriates’ Welfare, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday morning in Sylhet after attending a cultural event organized by the Academy for Manipuri Culture and Arts in the Mirzajangal area.
He said that the ongoing war situation in the Middle East has resulted in the cancellation of many international flights, creating difficulties for expatriate Bangladeshis. As a result, a number of migrant workers are facing the risk of their visas expiring before they can return to their workplaces.
To address this problem, the government has already launched a special hotline through the expatriates’ welfare ministry. The minister said affected expatriates can contact the hotline, and the government will try to provide necessary assistance within its capacity.
He emphasized that the government is committed to resolving the problems faced by Bangladeshi expatriates and ensuring their safety and well-being. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant institutions to provide support when necessary.
Regarding reports of casualties involving Bangladeshi nationals in the Middle East, the minister stated that whenever such information is received, the government immediately informs the authorities of the respective countries. The expatriates’ welfare ministry is maintaining regular communication and monitoring developments related to Bangladeshi workers abroad.
He added that the situation is being carefully observed at the highest level of government, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During the event, the minister also spoke about the traditional Holi festival celebrated by the Manipuri community. He noted that the festival represents an important part of the cultural heritage of the Manipuri people.
He further said the government is aware of the various challenges faced by the Manipuri community and is committed to taking effective measures to address their concerns. According to him, preserving cultural diversity and supporting ethnic communities remain important priorities for the government.
The minister concluded by saying that Bangladesh values the cultural traditions of all its communities and will continue working to ensure harmony and cooperation among different groups, while also standing by expatriate Bangladeshis facing difficulties abroad.
