BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has said that the government is steadily moving forward to implement the commitments it made to the people before the election. Speaking at an iftar gathering organized by a private development organization in Thakurgaon on Friday afternoon, he stated that the government aims to build a welfare-oriented state inspired by the spirit of 1952, 1971, and 2024, and prayed for divine strength to fulfill that mission. Expressing gratitude to the local জনগণ, he said the support he received from them is a debt he can never fully repay. He announced that work on establishing a medical college and a university in Thakurgaon will begin very soon, with preparatory activities already underway. He also mentioned that initiatives to set up an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and to operationalize the local airport are currently in progress. Highlighting steps taken to support farmers, the minister said that agricultural loans of up to 10,000 taka, including interest, have been waived to ease the burden on cultivators and strengthen the rural economy. The event was attended by State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, ESDO Executive Director Dr. Shahiduzzaman, and local party leaders and activists. Speakers at the program expressed optimism that the promised development projects would see visible progress in the coming days and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the government’s development agenda.
