A delegation of 21 medical professionals from Singapore, China, and India met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his official residence, Jamuna, on Sunday evening, July 27. The team of doctors and nurses is currently in Dhaka providing specialized care to victims of the recent plane crash at Milestone School and College.

During the meeting, Professor Yunus expressed his deep gratitude for the prompt arrival and dedicated medical assistance of the foreign teams. He commended their swift action and emphasized the critical role such international cooperation plays during times of crisis. “These teams have come not only with skills but with compassion,” said Professor Yunus.

He added that their presence reflects a shared sense of humanity and underlines the importance of global partnerships in times of emergency. Their efforts, he said, symbolize the strength of international solidarity when faced with tragedy. He further noted that the timely support had made a significant difference in saving lives, especially among the victims who included many children in need of urgent trauma care.

The Chief Adviser also acknowledged the collaborative work between the foreign teams and local medical professionals, highlighting the seamless cooperation that ensured comprehensive treatment for the injured. He extended his appreciation to the diplomatic channels involved in facilitating the teams’ quick arrival and operational readiness.

Professor Yunus assured the visiting medical personnel of the government’s full support during their mission and urged them to continue fostering long-term relationships with Bangladesh, even virtually. He encouraged institutional collaboration, medical education exchange, and continuous engagement in health sector innovation and capacity-building.

He stressed that such partnerships could form the foundation for long-term cooperation in public health and emergency preparedness. “We hope this will mark the beginning of a deeper relationship between our medical communities,” he stated.

Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum also expressed gratitude to the medical teams for their timely intervention and heartfelt support. Professor Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, noted that the immediate response of the foreign doctors was instrumental in saving many lives in the aftermath of the crash.

During the meeting, Professor Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, remarked that the incident once again proved that “doctors have no borders.” He praised the humanitarian spirit and commitment of the visiting medical teams.

The delegation included ten representatives from Singapore, eight from China, and four from India. The meeting was also attended by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and the head of the Singapore mission in Dhaka, alongside other officials and health professionals.
