A fire broke out on the sixth floor of a high-rise building in Armanitola, Old Dhaka. The fire service brought the blaze under control within 1.5 hours and safely rescued 17 people from the building.
According to the fire service, the blaze at Haji Tower was reported at 6:40 AM on Tuesday. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 6:45 AM and began operations. The fire was completely extinguished by 8:10 AM.
The fire originated on the sixth floor of the 14-story building. A total of 9 fire service units were deployed to control the fire. Since the upper floors housed residential units, there was panic among the residents. Using alternative stairways, all 17 people were safely evacuated.
No casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage will be determined after investigation, said Kazi Nozumuzzaman, Assistant Director of the Dhaka Division Fire Service.
