Bangladesh’s Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku carried out a surprise inspection at a fuel station in the capital in an effort to ensure the careful and efficient use of petroleum products across the country and instructed pump owners and employees to strictly follow the set limits on fuel sales so that supplies remain balanced and accessible to all consumers. During the visit, the minister spoke directly with customers as well as fuel station officials and emphasized that the ongoing global conflicts and geopolitical tensions have created uncertainty in international fuel supply chains, which could eventually affect domestic markets as well, making it essential for everyone to adopt a mindset of responsible consumption. Explaining the situation through a simple analogy, he said that if a household has only a limited amount of food in stock and no immediate resupply, it would be unwise to consume everything at once; instead, the available resources should be used carefully and distributed wisely over time, and the same principle applies to the management of fuel resources. Addressing customers waiting at the station, he urged them not to panic or rush unnecessarily to purchase excessive amounts of fuel, assuring that adequate reserves still exist in the country but must be used judiciously to avoid potential shortages. The minister further explained that setting limits on the amount of fuel sold to individual vehicles could help keep filling stations operational and ensure fair distribution among the public. He instructed pump operators to explain the situation clearly to customers and refrain from selling fuel in excessive quantities that could lead to sudden shortages. The recent surge in crowds at petrol pumps across various parts of the country has been linked to concerns about global oil and gas supply disruptions caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and the minister’s unexpected inspection was aimed at assessing the situation firsthand and encouraging responsible consumption among both suppliers and consumers.
