European Union election observation mission chief Ivars Ijabs has described the overall environment surrounding the 13th parliamentary election as very positive. Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday morning, he said that the election atmosphere so far appears encouraging and the security arrangements seem satisfactory. He noted that the EU’s short-term observers would begin their field deployment from today, visiting different areas to assess preparations, the voting environment, and administrative arrangements. The observer chief said that although there are some areas where discussions and improvements may be needed, the overall election climate is moving in a positive direction. Emphasizing the importance of an inclusive election, he said the European Union wants to see a process in which all stakeholders participate, with particular attention to the involvement of minorities and women. He added that organizing a credible election requires coordinated efforts from political parties, the election commission, the administration, and the voters themselves. Meanwhile, relevant sources have indicated that various measures have been taken to ensure law and order, security, and overall readiness for the polls. The presence of international observers is expected to enhance transparency and credibility throughout the electoral process. The EU observation team will closely monitor different aspects of the election on polling day as well as before and after the vote, and will later publish an assessment report. Observers’ positive remarks are being seen as an encouraging signal about the election environment and may help boost voter confidence and participation. Despite political tensions surrounding the polls, the situation currently appears relatively stable and positive from the perspective of international observers, an indication considered significant ahead of the upcoming vote.
