According to reports from Chattogram, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that the country’s economy is currently in a very poor state. He emphasized that in the upcoming budget, all necessary measures will be taken to create employment and boost investment. The minister particularly stressed increasing both domestic and foreign investment, noting that without investment, employment opportunities cannot be generated. Health and education sectors require reforms, but top priority will be given to employment and investment growth.

On Friday, the minister visited land acquired by the Bangladesh Navy in Patenga, including Banouja Ulka Abad Area-2 and the adjacent Muslimabad area along Marine Drive. During the visit, he mentioned that there is no hospital in the southern part of Chattogram, and therefore plans are underway to establish both general and specialized hospitals, along with a Nursing Institute and a Technology Institute. He assured that the construction of the hospital will commence promptly to meet local demand.

Responding to journalists’ questions about reviving the fragile economy, the minister stated that taxes would be increased to stimulate investment, which will in turn create jobs. He emphasized that education, health, and employment will be the budgetary priorities. During the site visit, Rear Admiral Md. Moinul Hasan, Commander of Chattogram Naval Area, briefed the minister on land location, geographical conditions, connectivity, surrounding infrastructure, and potential for future development. Local political leaders and other dignitaries from Chattogram were also present at the event.
