An earthquake struck several regions of Bangladesh, including the capital city Dhaka, on Friday morning at 10:32 AM. The earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale, caused noticeable tremors but left no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Myanmar, approximately 128 kilometers from the town of Phek in India’s Nagaland state. The tremor originated at a depth sufficient to be felt across a wide area.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department confirmed the distance between Dhaka and the epicenter as 531 kilometers. Regions in the northeastern part of the country, including Sylhet and surrounding areas, reported experiencing the earthquake's effects.

Shah Mohammad Sajib Hossain, Assistant Director of the Sylhet Meteorological Office, stated that the earthquake's origin was confirmed to be in Myanmar. "We have felt the tremors in Sylhet. The earthquake measured 5.0 in magnitude. For now, this is what we know. Further details will be shared as we receive more information," he added.

The tremor serves as a reminder of the region's vulnerability to seismic activity, with Bangladesh being located near tectonic plate boundaries. Although this particular earthquake caused no significant harm, authorities remain vigilant to ensure public safety in the event of aftershocks or future incidents.
