The new executive committee for the 2025–2027 term was elected during the AGM held at the association's Banani office
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of Daffodil International University, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) for the 2025–2027 term. The election took place during the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, July 17, at APUB's headquarters in Banani, Dhaka.
The newly elected executive committee includes Vice Chairmen Benazir Ahmed of North South University and KBM Moyeen Uddin Chisty of Victoria University of Bangladesh. Ishtiaque Abedin of American International University–Bangladesh has been elected as Secretary General, while Md. Rezaul Karim of Southeast University will serve as Joint Secretary General. Kayyum Reza Chowdhury from the University of Asia Pacific has been elected as Treasurer.
Dr. Sabur Khan, known for his long-standing commitment to education, is also the President of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and serves as the Chairman of the Bangladesh chapter of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. He holds the position of Ambassador of the World Union of Small and Medium Enterprises in Bangladesh and is a permanent committee member of the Asian University Presidents Forum. Dr. Khan is a former President of both the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS).
Secretary General Ishtiaque Abedin, a member of AUAP, is also affiliated with the DCCI and the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI).
The newly formed executive committee comprises a diverse group of members from various prominent private universities. These include Sadaf Saz Siddiqui (BRAC University), Faruque Hassan (BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology), Kazi Zahedul Hasan (Central Women’s University), Lutfe M. Ayub (Chittagong Independent University), Naushad Shamsul Arefin (East West University), Abul Kasem Haider (Eastern University), Shafayet Kabir Chowdhury (East Delta University), Didar A. Hossain (Independent University, Bangladesh), Md. Ashraf Ali (Prime University), Dr. Mahbubur Rahman (State University of Bangladesh), Mostafa Kamal (The People’s University of Bangladesh), Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed (University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh), and Hafizur Rahman Khan (Varendra University).
The newly elected leadership of APUB has pledged to strengthen and advance the progress of higher education across the country’s private universities. The committee also reiterated its commitment to contributing meaningfully to the national development agenda through educational excellence and institutional cooperation.
