Dengue Claims Two More Lives, 392 Hospitalized Across Bangladesh in 24 Hours

Barishal records highest new cases; over 8,000 admitted since January amid rising national concern. 

In the last 24 hours, 392 new dengue patients have been hospitalized across Bangladesh, with Barishal division reporting the highest number at 126. Chattogram followed with 80 new admissions, while Dhaka Division (excluding city corporations) recorded 31. Additionally, 22 patients were admitted in Dhaka North City, 64 in Dhaka South City, 25 in Khulna, 41 in Rajshahi, and one each in Mymensingh and Rangpur.

According to a bulletin from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday, two more people have died from dengue—one from Barishal and one from Dhaka North City Corporation.

A total of 260 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide in the same period. Since the beginning of 2024, 8,150 dengue patients have been hospitalized, and 7,077 have recovered. The death toll for the current year has now reached 34.

For context, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths in 2024. In 2023, the country experienced its deadliest outbreak, with 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths.
