BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has emphasized that if the aspirations for democracy remain unfulfilled, the prevailing crisis in the country will only intensify. Speaking at an organizational meeting of the district BNP held at the Sky View Community Center in Nilphamari on Tuesday evening, he highlighted the necessity of an elected government to manage and resolve the ongoing challenges.
During his speech, Dudu expressed the BNP’s demand for the restoration of voting rights and the arrangement of a fair and credible election in the country. Referring to past movements, he recalled the remarks of BNP leader Tarique Rahman, asserting that the ultimate decision about the nation’s fate will be made on the streets. He reiterated that unless democratic aspirations are met, the crisis will continue to grow, necessitating an elected government to stabilize the situation.
Dudu also called on the government to take immediate steps to control commodity prices, ensuring that people can maintain a basic standard of living. He urged for the restoration of law and order, adding that these demands have been consistent over the years. Reflecting on the BNP’s prolonged struggle for democracy, he said the party has endured a 16-17 year-long movement, with the hope of breaking free from authoritarianism and leading the country toward a cleaner political landscape.
He stated that the BNP has been waiting for 16 years to participate in a free and fair election, with no need for further preparation. According to Dudu, the party is fully prepared and committed to engaging in any credible electoral process.
The meeting was presided over by District BNP President AKM Alamgir Sarkar and attended by prominent BNP leaders, including Organizational Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, Organizational Secretary Abdul Khaleq, Professor Aminul Islam, Executive Committee Member Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shamim, and District BNP General Secretary Zahurul Alam.
