Death Toll Rises to 33 in Milestone School Jet Crash Tragedy

The number of fatalities from the tragic military jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara has risen to 33, according to an official statement released on Friday (July 25). The updated figure was shared with the media by Suchismita Tithi, Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, citing information from the Directorate General of Health Services.

The latest victim was identified as 13-year-old Abdul Musabbir Makin, a seventh-grade student at the school. Makin passed away at 1:05 PM while under intensive care at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute, confirmed that Makin had suffered burns over 70 percent of his body, including damage to his respiratory tract.

Earlier in the day, another young student, 10-year-old Ayman, also succumbed to injuries at 9:32 AM. Both had been receiving critical care at the burn institute since the crash.

The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing further detailed the distribution of the deceased across various hospitals. Out of the 33 confirmed deaths, 15 occurred at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, 15 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), one at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, one unidentified victim at Lubna General Hospital and Cardiac Centre, and one at United Hospital.

As of Friday afternoon, a total of 50 patients remained under treatment across several medical institutions. Of these, 40 patients are being treated at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, eight at CMH, one at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, and one at the National Institute of Mental Health.

The crash has sent shockwaves throughout the country and prompted a national outpouring of grief. Families continue to wait for updates as many of the injured remain in critical condition. Health officials and government representatives are monitoring the situation closely, and coordination between institutions remains ongoing to manage the crisis effectively.

The incident has become one of the most devastating aviation-related tragedies to impact a civilian area in recent years. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, as emergency response teams and healthcare professionals work tirelessly to provide care for the survivors.
