Clashes broke out in the capital between police and demonstrators surrounding a sit-in program by Inquilab Mancha, leaving more than fifty people injured after baton charges, tear gas shells, and sound grenades were used. The incident occurred in the afternoon at a key intersection, where activists had been staging a divided sit-in at two nearby locations since the previous day, demanding a neutral investigation under the United Nations into a recent killing. Police had set up barricades in the area, where several hundred protesters had gathered. At one stage, a group of activists from another nearby location attempted to move toward the main gathering point, but police blocked their movement, leading to scuffles. Soon after, protesters attempted to break through the barricade and advance, triggering a confrontation with the police. To bring the situation under control, police initially used water cannons and later fired sound grenades and tear gas shells, along with baton charges to disperse the crowd. Some protesters were reported to have thrown bricks and bottles at the police during the clash. Several leaders and activists of the organization were among those injured, and more than fifty people sought treatment at a major hospital in the city. Hospital authorities said the injured had various types of blunt-force wounds, but no gunshot victims were found. One of the injured was admitted to the hospital, while others received treatment and left. Police officials stated that protesters attempted to break the barricade and lay siege to a sensitive location, and some even climbed onto a water cannon to damage it, forcing law enforcement to take action in the public interest. Following the clashes, several political figures arrived at the site in the late afternoon and joined protesters in a demonstration march, which later moved toward another central area of the city. By evening, activists had resumed their sit-in at that location, continuing their protest.
