Speaking as the chief guest at an iftar gathering organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center in the capital, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that after more than a decade of struggle, sacrifice, and political movement, the country has entered a new democratic phase and it is now time to honor those sacrifices by working to transform the lives of the people. Addressing the event on Saturday afternoon, he stated that countless citizens had endured repression, enforced disappearances, killings, and hardships in the fight to restore freedom of speech and democratic rights, and that through persistent struggle and the recent national election, a democratic environment has finally been reestablished. The Prime Minister emphasized that the trust placed by the people in political parties must be safeguarded at all costs and that leaders must rise above personal interests to serve the nation with sincerity and accountability. Calling upon party leaders, activists, and attendees, he urged everyone to pledge in the name of Almighty Allah to prioritize the welfare and destiny of the nation, and to work collectively toward building a just, democratic, and prosperous state for future generations. He expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for organizing the event and thanked the concerned leaders for their invitation and hospitality. A special prayer was offered before iftar seeking peace, stability, and prosperity for the country and its people, with participation from representatives of various political parties and distinguished guests. Highlighting the importance of maintaining political stability in the current national and international context, the Prime Minister said that strengthening democracy requires tolerance, dialogue despite differences of opinion, and transforming parliament into an effective platform for solving national issues. He expressed optimism that through united efforts and responsible leadership, the aspirations of the people can be fulfilled and the country can be transformed into a humane, just, and developed nation.
