After 17 years, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) aims to make the return of its Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, an “unforgettable” event. The party is planning what it describes as one of the largest public gatherings in Dhaka’s history to mark the occasion.
Party sources say preparations are underway to finalize organizational arrangements, security measures, and the overall action plan. The central BNP, in coordination with its Dhaka North and South units, will implement the program. A final plan is expected within the next few days.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh from London on December 25. Following the announcement, enthusiasm has surged among party leaders and supporters.
BNP leaders expect a massive turnout from across the country, with crowds likely to gather from the airport area through Gulshan and Banani to welcome Tarique Rahman.
Security has been given top priority. The party has reorganized the Chairperson Security Force (CSF), which will be responsible for the security of Tarique Rahman and his wife, Zubaida Rahman, upon their return. The government has also assured necessary security arrangements.
Political analysts believe that Tarique Rahman’s return, ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, could energize BNP supporters and significantly influence the political landscape.
