In Chuadanga’s Jibannagar, the death of BNP’s municipal general secretary Shamsuzzaman Dablue (52) following his detention during a nighttime military operation has sparked intense protests and political tension. On Monday around 10:30 PM, security personnel detained him from a local pharmacy and took him to the Upazila Health Complex for questioning, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The news spread rapidly, prompting BNP activists and affiliated groups to gather around the hospital late at night, set fire on the road, chant slogans, and demand justice, alleging that opposition activists were being selectively detained and tortured amid election activities. The local BNP candidate communicated the incident to the election authority, announced plans to file formal complaints, and demanded legal action against those responsible. Meanwhile, the civil administration stated that the death would undergo autopsy to determine the actual cause before any further legal or administrative steps. As of Tuesday morning, the body remained at the health complex under heavy security, restricting entry for outsiders as military personnel guarded the premises. Attempts by the administration to transfer the body to the district hospital for autopsy met strong resistance from agitated BNP activists, who insisted that the body could not be moved until allegations of abuse leading to death were addressed. Conflicting claims emerged—local activists termed the death a killing, while military officials described it as a heart attack. The situation around Jibannagar became tense as protests, election-related disputes, and demands for investigation continued to escalate.
