The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has reaffirmed its position as the only political force capable of leading the country toward a democratic and prosperous future. On the occasion of the party’s 47th founding anniversary, BNP leaders declared that the party’s vision, reforms, and leadership could rescue the nation from its current crises.
Speaking at a discussion titled “The Purpose and Significance of BNP’s Foundation” at the Engineers Institution auditorium on Sunday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that a government led by the BNP would usher in much-needed political and economic reforms. He stated that if BNP forms the government, Tarique Rahman will serve as the Prime Minister. According to him, only BNP has the political will and structural roadmap to protect Bangladesh’s sovereignty, restore democracy, and revive the economy.
Mirza Fakhrul underscored that the BNP’s 31-point reform plan is not just a political agenda but a comprehensive framework for restructuring the country’s governance. He argued that the political and economic structures of Bangladesh are in urgent need of change, and such transformation is only possible through the full implementation of these reforms. He further noted that the BNP’s founding ideals continue to resonate, especially in times of crisis, as the people seek an alternative path to justice, fairness, and accountable governance.
BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed echoed similar concerns and warned about domestic and international conspiracies aimed at derailing Bangladesh’s democratic journey. He accused vested interests of deliberately disrupting the electoral process in order to keep democracy out of reach. According to him, a particular group inside the country is attempting to assist BNP during elections, yet paradoxically denies the true value of Bangladesh’s independence. He described such groups as conspirators working against the nation’s democratic aspirations.
In his remarks, Hafizuddin also highlighted India’s role in Bangladesh’s political affairs, alleging that New Delhi is trying to bring the Awami League back to power. He pointed to comments in India’s Lok Sabha where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was praised, claiming that such actions reveal attempts to restore her government through foreign backing.
Another Standing Committee member, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, reflected on the BNP’s historic ability to unite the nation under the banner of nationalism. He asserted that the party’s role in safeguarding democracy will extend to major transformations in key sectors such as education and healthcare. He expressed optimism that a BNP-led administration would deliver revolutionary improvements in these fields, giving citizens a sense of renewed hope.
Meanwhile, Begum Selima Rahman, also a member of the BNP Standing Committee, stressed the importance of unity among party leaders and activists during these challenging times. Speaking on the party’s anniversary, she reminded members that the BNP was born out of a period of struggle, and once again, unity will be its strongest weapon in facing today’s adversities. She also criticized the proportional representation (PR) system, accusing certain political groups of using it as a tool to sabotage elections.
Throughout the event, speakers emphasized the historic mission of the BNP since its foundation, portraying it as a movement born out of the people’s aspirations for democracy and sovereignty. The message was clear: BNP’s leadership sees itself not merely as a political alternative but as the guardian of Bangladesh’s national interest, determined to restore a system of governance that respects the people’s mandate.
The program ended with a renewed call for solidarity among party members, urging them to carry forward the founding ideals of BNP in the face of both internal and external challenges. Leaders expressed confidence that with the backing of the people and adherence to its reform agenda, BNP would once again emerge as the force capable of leading Bangladesh toward a democratic and prosperous future.
