The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has finalized seat-sharing arrangements for 15 parliamentary constituencies with its allied parties. While several alliance leaders will contest the election using the BNP’s Sheaf of Paddy symbol, others have chosen to run under their own party symbols.
As part of the political realignment, four party chiefs have dissolved their respective parties and joined the BNP. In addition, the general secretaries of two other parties have also joined the party. So far, five alliance leaders have secured nominations under the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.
However, six alliance partners—including Citizen Unity, Ganosanghati Andolon, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh, Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party—have decided to contest the election using their own symbols.
Meanwhile, the BNP has made changes to candidates in several constituencies, replacing nominees in some areas while retaining experienced figures in others. These changes have caused mixed reactions among local party leaders and activists.
Political observers note that concerns over electoral strength and vote distribution have led many alliance leaders to view the Sheaf of Paddy as a safer option. On the other hand, some parties prefer to preserve their political identity and organizational presence by contesting under their own symbols.
BNP leadership has emphasized that promoting young, capable politicians who played active roles in past movements remains a key objective. Candidate selection and seat-sharing decisions are being finalized with that broader strategy in mind.
